And yet another discography. Maupin's best known for playing with Miles Davis and for being a member of Herbie Hancock's Headhunters. He's one of my three favorite saxophonists (the other two being Wayne Shorter and Pharoah Sanders, by the way); his playing is inventive and intense, and he is excellent in hardbop, funk or more experimental idioms. He's mainly a tenor saxophone player, but he also performs on soprano saxophone, on lyricon, on flutes, plus he's one of the best bass clarinetists around.
This discography is sorted alphabetically; I might change that to chronological order at some point. The discography is still a bit sketchy, since I do not have all of Bennie's releases. If you have any corrections, additions or comments, or just want to talk about Maupin's music, email me.
